Gustav 2

Gustav has turned a little to the left! It is still too early to tell what will happen but this is a good sign. We have reservations for Friday-Monday at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi so I think we are in the clear for that. I am still worried about my friends and family that lost everything 3 years ago (me included) this Friday, really don't think they could go through it again. Most of them have just put their lives back together. Yesterday I found out that Hattiesburg, MS has sold out of bottled water, and there were lines for gas. People have been calling and emailing me about hotels in Bham to evacuate, Jackson, MS hotels are all sold out, and there is even a rumor that Jim Cantore has checked into the Imperial Palace Casino in Biloxi. The Miss Gulf Coast is SCRAMBLING!!! I hope and pray this storm misses them!!!!

Football: Northern vs Southern

Women's Accessories:
NORTH: Chap Stick in back pocket and a $20 bill in the front pocket.
SOUTH: Louis Vuitton duffel with two lipsticks, waterproof mascara, and a fifth of bourbon. Money not necessary - that's what dates are for.
Stadium Size:
NORTH: College football stadiums hold 20,000 people.
SOUTH: High school football stadiums hold 20,000 people.
Fathers:
NORTH: Expect their daughters to understand Sylvia Plath.
SOUTH: Expect their daughters to understand pass interference.
Campus Decor:
NORTH: Statues of founding fathers.
SOUTH: Statues of Heisman trophy winners.
Heroes:
NORTH: Rudy Giuliani
SOUTH: Archie & Peyton Manning
Getting Tickets:
NORTH: 5 days before the game you walk into the ticket office on campus.
SOUTH: 5 months before the game you walk into the ticket office on campus, make a large financial contribution and put name on a waiting list for tickets.
Friday Classes After a Thursday Night Game:
NORTH: Students and teachers not sure they're going to the game, because they have classes on Friday.
SOUTH: Teachers cancel Friday classes because they don't want to see the few hung over students that might actually make it to class.
Parking:
NORTH: An hour before game time, the University opens the campus for game parking.
SOUTH: RVs sporting their school flags begin arriving on Wednesday for the weekend festivities. The really faithful arrive on Tuesday.
Game Day:
NORTH: A few students party in the dorm and watch ESPN on TV.
SOUTH: Every student wakes up, has a beer for breakfast, and rushes over to where ESPN is broadcasting "Game Day Live" to get on camera and wave to the idiots up north who wonder why "Game Day Live" is never Broadcast from their campus.
Tailgating:
NORTH: Raw meat on a grill, beer with lime in it, listening to local radio station with truck tailgate down
SOUTH: 30-foot custom pig-shaped smoker fires up at dawn. Cooking accompanied by live performance from the Dave Matthews Band,...who come over during breaks and ask for a hit off bottle of bourbon.
Getting to the Stadium:
NORTH: You ask "Where's the stadium?" When you find it, you walk right in.
SOUTH: When you're near it, you'll hear it. On game day it is the state's third largest city.
Concessions:
NORTH: Drinks served in a paper cup, filled to the top with soda.
SOUTH: Drinks served in a plastic cup, with the home team's mascot on it, filled less than half way with soda, to ensure enough room for bourbon.
When National Anthem is Played:
NORTH: Stands are less than half full, and less than half of them stand up.
SOUTH: 100,000 fans, all standing, sing along in perfect four-part harmony.
The Smell in the Air After the First Score:
NORTH: Nothing changes.
SOUTH: Fireworks, Gunpowder (from the cannon in the end zone), with a touch of bourbon.
Commentary (Male):
NORTH: "Nice play."
SOUTH: "Dammit, you slow sumbitch - tackle him and break his legs."
Commentary (Female):
NORTH: "My, this certainly is a violent sport."
SOUTH: "Dammit, you slow sumbitch - tackle him and break his legs."
Announcers:
NORTH: Neutral and paid.
SOUTH: Announcer harmonizes with the crowd in the fight song, with a tear in his eye because he is so proud of his team.
After the Game:
NORTH: The stadium is empty way before the game ends.
SOUTH: Another rack of ribs goes on the smoker, while somebody goes to the nearest package store for more bourbon, and planning begins for next week's game.
Nothing else in the universe comes even halfway close to the glories of Southern football!

Brothers @ the beach

Both of my brothers were at our beach house in Santa Rosa this week. My older brother and his family stayed all week, and are leaving today. While I sat in Bham and watched it rain all weekend. So I just loved this pic of my older brother and his 2 kids at the beach yesterday and had to share. LOVE!!

Flemings Date

Friday night Rick picked me up for my birthday date night. We went to Flemings @ the Summit, and it was SUPER! The food was excellent, as was the wine, and the service. Then we stopped by Oak Hill for an after dinner drink (where we ran into sweet Rachel Willis!). Everything was PERFECT! Thanks RB for a great birthday!

Thanks Fancy

My sweet friend Fancy has been reading the blog a lot as of recent, so I just wanted to say HI FANCY! Thanks for reading. I was feeling a little sad yesterday, but realized all I needed was to hear the voice of a good friend. She and I talked for over an hour last night, and I am feeling all better today. We talked about absolutely NOTHING, and I LOVED IT! Have a great weekend Fancy Pants, wish you were here.

PERFECT!

Happy Friday all!

Friendship

I value the friend who for me finds time on his calendar, but I cherish the friend who for me does not consult his calendar.

R.I.P. LeRoi Moore

News from dmband.com:

We are deeply saddened that LeRoi Moore, saxophonist and founding member of Dave Matthews Band, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, August 19, 2008, at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles from sudden complications stemming from his June ATV accident on his farm near Charlottesville, Virginia. LeRoi had recently returned to his Los Angeles home to begin an intensive physical rehabilitation program.

Sad Sad Sad news! For those that don't know I am a HUGE Dave Matthews Band fan and they are BY FAR MY FAV! This upsets me.

Kitchen update: now we're getting somewhere!

Today we picked out granite. Last night we looked at sinks for a hour, and wow were we shocked. The displays are anywhere from $60-$400, well the ones we looked at were closer to $1000!!!! WHAT! Rick was not big on that.
The cabinets came yesterday. No doors, but this is a start. They look awesome

Lake Martin w/ the Dunns

Rick and I went to Lake Martin Saturday to play with the Dunns. Jen & Burton have a beautiful, RELAXING house on the lake, perfect for R& R! We have been going non-stop with the kitchen, my birthday, work, and just life in general, we got so much needed rest. Played with PRECIOUS baby Will, and I could not get enough of him. He said puppy jump, willy swim, will jump, will bounce, everything is 3rd person, and I LOVE IT!!! He chased Lilly (willy) around everywhere. Oh, and we watched Michael Phepls win his 8th gold metal!!!! Wow, that guy is awesome. So that was our weekend, relaxing at the lake for 2 days. Back to work and kitchen updates.

Work Birthday Lunch

Went to lunch with a couple people from work, and look what happened! My face turned SO RED! There was a band around the table, and they sang not 1 but 2 songs to me. GREAT! Birthday is getting a little better, this at least made me laugh.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME

29 is STUPID! I am usually SUPER excited about my birthday, but this year I am just not felling it. It has nothing to do with my age, just seems to be an inconvenience for everyone this year. Not feeling very special today. We shall see what the day holds for me. Hope my attitude gets better!

Slumber Party w/Baby BAYLA

Bayla is spending the night with us while Heather is out of town for work, and Lilly isn't sure what to think about it. As you can see below, they are having a stand off.
Sweet baby Bayla
Lilly looks less than thrilled.

First cavity @ 29 yrs old

I went to the dentist last week, and got some bad news! I HAVE 2 CAVITIES!!!!! I have never had a cavity in my life, and now, 1 week before my 29th birthday I have 2, how does that happen? I thought you grew out of things like that, but I am told it is the opposite. No one goes through life without a cavity (or so they told me at the dentist). So today I had my first cavity filled, and I was TERRIFIED! It wasn't as bad as I expected, but it didn't feel good. The left side of my face is numb, and I tried to put some chapstick on before I left.....bad idea, it was all over my face. Back to the dentist Monday for filling #2. YUCK!

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2

Kelly and I went to see this tonight, and I LOVED IT! I know it is a total teen movie, but I loved every minute. It really has nothing to do with the pants, just mostly about friendships. Makes me miss my girls from home.

Happy Birthday Elias

Today is Elias' Birthday, the BIG 3-0! Real excited that all my friends are turning 30, and I am about to turn 29! This is really fun for me. Enjoy your day Elias! HA!

Kitchen update 2

The cabinet guys gutted the kitchen this week. Rick moved some outlets, and put down the backer board for the tile. He still has a lot to do, and is a little overwhelmed I think. The sheet rock has to be replaced where he moved outlets, and he is traveling this week for work, and my birthday all weekend, so hopefully the cabinet guy has someone that can finish so the cabinets can still be put in next week. It amazes me how much Rick has done on his own, he is SO HANDY! I am totally impressed.

Slow weekend

The girls @ Jess & Dusty's house
Pretty slow weekend in Bham. Friday I went over to Jess & Dusty's for a few glasses of wine. Saturday played at the pool with Kelly. Saturday night Rick and I went to dinner @ Beth & Kyle's house. I had the pleasure of meeting Princess Ella, and big boy Davis. Ella was so sweet, and excited to meet Lilly that she bought her a box of dog treats for her visit. Ella also had about 5 wardrobe changes, such a princess. It was a fun night. That was my weekend, Rick worked on his kitchen most of the weekend. IT IS MY BIRTHDAY WEEK, so probably a good thing I rested up!!!!

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS

My NEW ORLEANS SAINTS won their first pre-season game of the year against the Arizona Cardinals 24-10 last night. WHO DAT! Hopefully this is a preview of what's to come.

Friday with SALLY O'MALLEY

TGIF ALL! Just thought this Friday's image would be my favorite SNL character EVER.....Ms. SALLY O'MALLEY! She is FIFTY years old, FIVE-O, FIFTY, and she likes to kick, and spin, and do plies. Sometimes I like to pretend I am her, and I feel sure that will happen next Friday on my birthday. HAPPY FRIDAY ALL! Enjoy your weekend.

Wall-e with the McKibbins

Rick and I took his niece and nephew to Johnny Rockets then to see Wall-e. I have to say the movie was much better that I expected. The kids had a blast, lots of sodas, candy, and popcorn, and they were WIRED! The best part of being an aunt or uncle is taking the kids on these adventures, giving them pretty much anything they want then taking them home. Rick just wanted to ring the doorbell and run. It was a fun night, and the kids LOVE their Uncle Rick.

TGIF

HAPPY FRIDAY ALL! It's been a long week, so I thought everyone could use a funny pic of me as a baby!!!! Horrible, I know! We are taking it easy tonight, and heading to the lake at 7am tomorrow. Rick and 20 of his friends, should be a BLAST. There have been a minimum of 153 emails going on with this group planning the weekend, and it has made me totally stoked. Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend, I should have interesting pics Monday!
